Vol. 213 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Finglas West (Dublin) Schoolchildren.

44.

asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange that schoolgoing children of Finglas West be provided with transport to and from schools in North Strand Street and Cabra East and West, Dublin.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies given by me to similar questions on 5th April and 7th November, 1962, and 29th January, 1963. Arrangements have been in operation since 1952 for the transport of children from the Finglas area to certain national schools in the city. As I am satisfied that the present arrangements are fully adequate and suitable, I do not propose to alter them.

Does the Minister realise that children from Finglas West have to travel in the winter time approximately a mile in order to get to school? Surely he should take that into consideration and provide transport for them to schools in Cabra?

My information is that transport to schools is provided but a choice of school is not provided. I think the Deputy is concerned with providing transport to a particular school.

There is no transport provided for children going from Finglas West to Cabra West.

Transport is available but not to a particular school.

They are listed for this school. There is no other school to which they can go.

If the Deputy will put the matter in specific form, I shall investigate it.

I shall do that.
