asked the Taoiseach the value and volume of mature whiskey exported each year since 1954, and the countries concerned.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Whiskey Exports.
The information for the years 1954-61 available in respect of the Deputy's question was given to him in my reply of 31 October, 1962—Dáil Debates, Vol. 197, No. 2, cols. 276-80. The particulars for 1962-63 and for January-November, 1964, the latest available data, are shown in the attached statement which, with your permission, Sir, I propose to circulate with the Official Report. No distinction is made for statistical purposes between mature and immature whiskey and exports of immature whiskey are, therefore, included in the figures. It is understood, however, that such exports are relatively small. Exports of "day old" whiskey, which were also included up to 1960, are excluded from the later figures.
Following is the statement:
DOMESTIC exports of whiskey by country of destination in each year 1962 and 1963 and in the period January—November, 1964.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary or the Revenue Commissioners break down the figures on the basis of the amount of whiskey up to four years of age that is exported and the amount over five years of age exported? Surely those figures are available in some section of the satistics branch.
They are not available to the Statistics Department.
Could the Taoiseach make arrangements to have these extracted from the customs and excise people?
We will look into the matter but I doubt if the value of the figures would warrant the time taken to obtain them.
I should like the Taoiseach to appreciate that other countries export only fully matured whiskey. It would be highly desirable to segregate the figures in order to have a true picture of what was consumed abroad and what was blended and came back as Scotch whisky.
