Vol. 214 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Implementation of Knapp Report.

141.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what progress has been made to date towards implementing the recommendations of the Knapp Report.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of 16th December, 1964, on this subject, to which I have nothing to add at present.

People concerned with the dairying industry are worried about the lack of progress made in implementing the report.

As the Deputy is aware, the report made four main recommendations. These recommendations were: the re-organisation of the Irish Agricultural Organisation Society; the entrusting to the Society of responsibility for working out general re-organisation plans for the dairying industry; the decision, in principle by the Government, in certain circumstances, to transfer the Dairy Disposal Company to co-operative control; and the extension of the activities of the IAOS in the co-operative field. A great deal of progress has been made in these directions.
