Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Buy Irish Campaign.

31.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is in a position to make a statement as to what tangible results have emerged from the Buy Irish campaign.

The Buy Irish campaign is basically a public relations campaign and, as such, its effects are extremely difficult to measure, particularly in the short-term. However, there has been considerable evidence of increased consumer demand for Irish goods since the campaign was launched and several manufacturers have attributed this very largely to the campaign. Even at a later stage, when the extent of the increased demand for Irish products should be more easily measurable, it may not be possible to isolate the precise proportions which can properly be attributed to the campaign itself or to other factors, such as improved products and more intensive marketing by manufacturers or to a greater purchasing power in the community.
