Vol. 214 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing Accommodation.

60.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government when the Dublin Corporation expects to be in a position to offer housing accommodation to families in one room on the waiting list (i) who are recommended by the Medical Officer and (ii) who are not at present so recommended and who consist of (a) seven persons or more (b) six persons (c) five persons and (d) four persons.

I understand that the Corporation are now generally dealing with families of seven in one room as well as persons displaced from dangerous buildings or evicted from private dwellings, according to the normal scheme of priorities, and to certain conditions settled by the Housing Committee at their meeting on 8th December, 1964. They hope to be in a position shortly to offer accommodation to families of six in one room but some time may elapse before accommodation can be offered to the smaller families.

In the case of families who are not at present recommended for rehousing by the medical officer it is not possible to give any indication as to when any of these can be rehoused. I expect, however, that the Corporation's expanded programme for the next five years supplemented by the dwellings to be provided at Ballymun will go a long way towards meeting the present housing shortage.
