Vol. 214 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Housing.

69.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange for the immediate inspection of all sites for rural cottages submitted by Laois County Council so that a scheme for the erection of cottages can be put into operation at once having regard to the great necessity for them.

70.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give approval to the proposal of Laois County Council for the erection of a scheme of eight houses on a suitable site at Stradbally; and if he will give it his urgent attention in view of the great housing shortage in the area.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 69 and 70 together.

A proposal by Laois County Council to acquire a site for a scheme of eight cottages at Stradbally was received in my Department on 28th December last. No information was submitted in regard to the suitability of the site or the terms of purchase thereof. The local authority has been asked to furnish this information.

Apart from the Stradbally proposal, there are no proposals before my Department for approval to acquisition of cottage sites by agreement.

71.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange to deal as a matter of urgency with the compulsory order which has been submitted by Laois County Council for his approval in regard to the erection of cottages by the council for several very deserving applicants.

The Laois County Health District Labourers (No. 1) Order, 1964, under which the Council seek authority to acquire a site for six to ten houses at Killimy, Emo, was received in my Department on 14th December last.

The site has been inspected by an inspector of my Department and in subsequent correspondence with the local authority further information was requested. This information was received in my Department on Monday last. I hope to be in a position to make a decision on the Order in the near future.
