asked the Minister for Local Government (a) the estimated total need of houses in the administrative area of Dublin County Council, and (b) the number of houses built by the Council in each of the past five years.

Dublin County Council have not carried out any overall survey of the housing needs of their administrative area. They have 1,064 applications on hands from persons approved by them for re-housing. The survey of unfit dwellings showed that 590 dwellings in the county were unfit and incapable of repair at a reasonable cost.

The number of houses built by Dublin County Council in each of the past five financial years is as follows:— 1959-60, 12; 1960-61, 80; 1961-62, 35; 1962-63, 77; 1963-64, 14.

Fifty-one houses have been completed in the current financial year to date.
