Vol. 214 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Retired National Health Insurance Agents.

89.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if it is intended to give either a pension or gratuity on compassionate grounds to the former national health insurance agents who have retired over the past few years, as some of them are in very poor circumstances.

There are in all 264 posts of agent in my Department, of which 43 full-time posts in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Waterford are pensionable. The remaining 221 covering the rest of the country are part-time posts the holders of which are not eligible for pensions or gratuities under the superannuation code.
