Vol. 214 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Headford (Galway) Farm.

96.

Mr. Donnellan

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission had a proposal before them for the acquisition of a farm at Cloghanower, Headford, County Galway; and, if so, why they did not purchase this farm in view of the great need for land division in the area.

Proceedings for acquisition of a 216 acre farm in this townland were instituted in 1961. Subsequently, the price fixed, on appeal, was considered such as to make the purchase of the lands inexpedient and the Land Commission decided to withdraw pursuant to section 24 of the Land Act, 1927, thereby terminating the proceedings. I should say that more than half of the property was of quite inferior quality.
