asked the Minister for Social Welfare how many recipients of non-contributory old age pension there were (1) in the country and (2) in the Kildare constituency on 1st February, 1965.

The number of recipients of old age non-contributory pensions at 31st December, 1964, the latest date for which the statistics are available, was 113,675.

Statistics are not maintained in respect of constituencies. I am having the figures in respect of County Kildare extracted and I will have them sent to the Deputy as soon as possible.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare how many recipients of contributory old age pension there were (1) in the country and (2) in the Kildare constituency on 1st February, 1965.

(1) On the 1st February, 1965, there were 39,433 recipients of old age (contributory) pension in the country.

(2) Statistics of old age (contributory) pension are available for administrative counties and county boroughs but not for constituency areas. In County Kildare, which forms the greatest part of the Kildare constituency, the number of recipients of old age (contributory) pension on 1st February, 1965, was 974.
