Vol. 214 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remuneration of Court Messengers.

25.

asked the Minister for Justice whether, in view of the present small remuneration paid to court messengers, he will consider an immediate substantial increase for these employees.

I do not accept that the remuneration of court messengers, which was increased by 12 per cent with effect from 1st February, 1964, can properly be described as very small.

The question of improving their remuneration further is a matter for determination under the Conciliation and Arbitration machinery for the Civil Service, and I understand that the court messengers are taking steps with a view to availing themselves of this machinery.
