Vol. 214 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford City Garda.

33.

asked the Minister for Justice (a) the number of Garda officers and men stationed at Waterford city, (b) the number of Gardaí allotted to beat duty each day, (c) the largest number on beat duty at a given time, and (d) the smallest number on beat duty at a given time.

The total strength of the Garda Síochána, including officers and men, in Waterford city is 75.

As indicated in my reply to a similar question on 19th November last, I do not think that it would be in the interests of the enforcement of law and order to disclose the information sought by the Deputy in relation to the number of men on beat duty. I have been assured by the Commissioner, however, that the number of men on beat duty in the city is at all times sufficient to ensure proper police supervision.
