Vol. 214 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housebuilding Density.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if in view of the lack of suitable housing sites he will now consider allowing the Dublin Corporation to build to a density of 160 habitable rooms per acre, as recommended by the Corporation Housing Committee in 1953.

The recommendation of the Dublin Corporation Housing Committee, to which the Deputy refers, was discussed, at the time, between officers of my Department and the Corporation. The Corporation decided subsequently that a maximum density of 100 rooms per acre represented satisfactory density for central city flat schemes on planning and economic grounds. Housing standards are under general review in my Department at present but there has been no recent request by the Corporation for reconsideration of the present standard of 100 rooms per acre.
