Vol. 214 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Road Flooding.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the main road from Tralee to Ballyheigue, about half a mile from Ballyheigue, is subject to severe flooding several times each year; and that these floods force the local people going to and from Tralee to make a detour of several miles, causing great inconvenience and hardship to them; and if he will consider making a special grant so that the level of this part of the road may be raised above the level of the flood waters.

I am aware that flooding occurs at the location referred to at certain stages of the winds and tides. The question of undertaking any works on the road would be primarily one for the Kerry County Council as road authority. There are no funds at my disposal from which a special grant could be made available to the council for such works.
