Vol. 214 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Onagh (Aran) School.

67.

asked the Minister for Education why Onagh national school, Kilronan, Aran Isles which was condemned in 1959 has not been replaced; what steps have been taken in relation to its replacement; and if he will now state when building will begin.

I wish to refer the Deputy to my reply of 9th June, 1964, in regard to Onagh national school. A grant was sanctioned in September, 1964, towards the cost of erecting a new school. The delay in sanctioning a grant was due mainly to the length of time which elapsed in getting an extension to the site and in obtaining title to the extension.

Detailed plans for the building are being prepared and I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that they hope to be in a position to invite tenders by the end of June next.
