asked the Minister for Justice whether it is his intention to abolish the death penalty completely.

The Criminal Justice Act, 1964, which abolished the death penalty for all but the most exceptional murders, was passed by the Oireachtas only a year ago. In my opinion, it is too early to consider amending it.
