Vol. 214 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Labourers' Cottages.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange with the Kerry County Council for a substantial increase in the output of labourers' cottages, as it will take years under the present building plans to rehouse the needy, many of whose houses are falling down.

I am disappointed to learn that, owing to staff shortages and delays in site acquisition, Kerry County Council are unlikely to reach the projected output of 140 cottages in the current financial year, although the number of completions will be appreciably higher than in either of the previous two years. I understand that the council are reasonably confident that their target will be achieved in the coming financial year.

As I indicated, in reply to the Deputy's question of 3rd March last, if the housing authority are of opinion that I can be of assistance in increasing output, I shall be glad to consider any further proposals they submit to that end.
