Vol. 214 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tenders for Garda Torches.

53.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice the number of torches for the Garda Síochána for which tenders were sought in May, 1964; and the reason why the Irish manufacturer who was invited to tender was unable to quote.

The Minister for Posts and Telegraphs has informed me that the number of torches for which tenders were invited was 810. The Irish manufacturer gave no reason for his inability to quote.

Mr. Ryan

Did the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs make any effort to ascertain why the Irish manufacturer was unable to quote and, if not, why?

The Controller of Post Office Stores made every effort to get a tender from the Irish firm and it was not forthcoming.

Mr. Ryan

Is this firm protected?

A Deputy

Not from the Deputy.

Mr. Ryan

I am trying to have some light thrown on this.
