Vol. 214 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drunken Driving Tests.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of court clearance for the relevant statutory powers, he will state when it is his intention to introduce blood tests for drunken drivers.

As already announced, legislation involving the use of such tests has been approved in principle by the Government. I hope to be able to make a more detailed announcement soon.

When the Minister says that legislation to this effect has been approved in principle, does that cover the possibility of employing the alternative of breathaliser tests?

The possibility is that it will retain the use of both.
