Vol. 214 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Road Grants.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will increase grants for county roads as they are very costly to maintain owing to present-day traffic, and as rolled and tarred roads would reduce the cost of maintenance and give farmers a better means of getting to their homes.

I am not yet in a position to advise road authorities of the Road Fund grants for the coming financial year, including the grants to be allocated in respect of county roads. The amounts will be notified to the authorities in due course. I would point out, however, that the cost of maintenance of rolled and tarred county roads is considerably higher than is the cost of maintaining unrolled roads.
