Vol. 214 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tuam Houses.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) the reason for the delay in the provision of 12 new houses in the Palace Grounds, Tuam, County Galway; and (b) the reason for the delay in the development of sites for private housing on these grounds.

On 8th October last I approved of a proposal by Galway County Council to accept a tender for the erection of 12 houses at the Palace Grounds, Tuam, subject to consideration by the council of suggested minor amendments to the documents submitted. I understand that the necessary amendments have now been made by the housing authority who expect that the contract will be signed shortly.

The proposal to provide sites for private housing on part of the Palace Grounds was referred back to the council last September for reconsideration. The problems involved have since been the subject of discussions and correspondence between my Department and the housing authority. The formal submission by the council of revised proposals is awaited.
