Vol. 214 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tuam Swimming Pool.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in the provision of a swimming pool in the town of Tuam, County Galway, in view of the fact that local interests subscribed their share of the finance a considerable time ago.

The proposal for the provision of a swimming pool at Palace Grounds, Tuam, was submitted to my Department in May, 1963. The preliminary documents were approved in principle in August, 1963, subject to minor amendments and the submission of further technical data. The outline specification and detailed drawings were submitted in August, 1964, but contained insufficient information for proper evaluation. Most of the additional information required by the Department was received on 1st January, 1965, and the local authority has been notified that, subject to subsoil conditions being satisfactory, contract documents may now be prepared. It will be seen, therefore, that there has been no undue delay in my Department in dealing with this proposal.
