Vol. 214 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Prophylaxis of Infective Hepatitis.

14.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Health whether any suggestions have been made to him or whether he has had any consideration given to the use of Gamma Globulin in prophylaxis of infective hepatitis.

The morbidity and mortality arising from infective hepatitis in this country have been the subject of regular review in my Department in recent years and in May, 1964, I issued a recommendation to all Health Authorities that at the discretion of the Chief Medical Office, gamma globulin should be provided free where it was proposed to use it as a prophylactic measure in the cases of debilitated persons and women during pregnancy who had been exposed to infection.
