Vol. 214 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Penicillin Content in Milk.

27.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Health whether any public health practice is in operation here for check estimations of the penicillin content of milk.

Whilst I have yet no evidence that a public health problem exists in this country with regard to penicillin residues in milk, the presence in foods of animal origin of penicillin and other similar residues arising from the treatment of farm animals with antibiotics has been under consideration and will be kept under review in association with the Department of Agriculture.
