Vol. 214 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - New Telephone Numbers.

60.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why the Directory Enquiries Section of his Department were unable to inform an inquirer on 9th January 1965 of the number of a telephone which was installed on 23rd December 1964; why there is a delay in having new numbers recorded in the Directory Enquiries Section and made available to enquirers; and if he will ensure that there are no further delays in future.

61.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the Directory Enquiries Section of his Department frequently inform enquirers that persons with new telephones are not listed in that Section's records; and if he will have this unsatisfactory state of affairs remedied immediately.

62.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the steps taken by the Telephones Installation Section of his Department to notify the Directory Enquiries Section of new telephone numbers; and the length of time taken from the date of installation to communicate such information to Directory Enquiries and to each operator there.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 60, 61 and 62 together.

When a telephone has been installed and tested, the particulars due to be published in the Directory are sent to the exchange for inclusion in the Enquiries Section's records. Under this arrangement information concerning new numbers is normally available to callers within three or four days.

In the absence of details, I am unable to say why the number of the telephone referred to in Question No. 60 was not available.
