Vol. 214 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - London Telephone Directory.

15.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that there is only one copy of the London Telephone Directory available for use in the Directory Enquiries Section of the telephone service; and that it frequently occurs that when several enquiries are made a considerable hold-up is caused through the formation of a queue of enquiries; and if he will arrange that more copies of this Directory be made available in the Section.

One complete set of telephone directories for Great Britain, comprising 61 books, including nine for the London area, is held in Dublin Exchange. This is adequate for the speedy handling of inquiries that can be answered by reference to the books. Delays that occur in the service given to callers generally arise because the particulars given do not correspond with a directory entry.
