Vol. 214 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Street Sales of Cinema Tickets.

25.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that the ticket touts trading cinema tickets in O'Connell Street, Dublin, at weekends are a menace to the citizens and deleterious to tourist development; and if he will have effective steps taken to curb the activities of these touts on the public street.

While I am aware that the activities of cinema ticket sellers in Dublin at weekends are an annoyance to some people and undesirable from various aspects, I do not accept the Deputy's description of these people as "a menace to the citizens". I do not think that the situation is such as to call for the promotion of legislation which would be required if such activities were to be effectively curtailed.

That is what the Minister and his Party believe in— free enterprise. Robbing the people.
