Vol. 214 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ninth Round Wage Increase.

1.

(South Tipperary) asked the Taoiseach the estimated annual cost of the ninth round 12 per cent wage increase in respect of salary and wage earners in semi-State employment under the aegis of his Department; and the number of persons so concerned.

Arising out of the ninth round agreement the remuneration of the staff of five persons employed by An Chomhairle Ealaion was increased by a total of £500 per annum approximately. The annual salary of the Director, which had been fixed at £1,000 in 1956, was increased to £1,250.

2.

(South Tipperary) asked the Taoiseach the estimated cost of the ninth round twelve per cent wage increase in respect of employees other than those in State, semi-State or local government employment.

For national income purposes the Central Statistics Office estimates the aggregate wages and salaries in the State by calendar year. For 1964 the total wages and salaries of all employees, including those in State, semi-State or local government employment, are estimated to have been £52 million more than in 1963.
