Vol. 214 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Municipal Elections Posters.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange that any advertising matter that is affixed by means of string or twine to Dublin Corporation lamp standards or other property by candidates contesting the municipal elections in 1965 will not be interfered with by the Corporation employees for a reasonable period around the date of the elections, and thereby reduce considerably the temptation of some candidates' supporters to deface property by affixing this advertising matter by means of paste or paint.

I understand that Dublin Corporation will raise no objection to the display of removable election posters or placards on Corporation lamp standards for a reasonable period around the date of the forthcoming municipal elections. Such material can also be displayed on other property provided the consent of the owner, occupier or person in charge of the property is obtained. The use of any structure or other land for the exhibition of advertisements relating to a presidential, Dáil or local election or referendum is exempted development for the purposes of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, subject to the condition that no such advertisement shall be exhibited for more than seven days after the date of the election or referendum to which it relates.
