Vol. 214 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Longford School.

53.

asked the Minister for Education what is the present position in regard to the building of a new school at Forgney, County Longford; when it is anticipated that it will be completed; whether he is aware that the present school which was erected in 1862 has been in a very bad state for a number of years, that neither sanitary facilities nor water supply are available, and that it is rat infested; and if, in view of the fact that the parochial committee feel that they will be unable to raise the contribution required of them by his Department owing to the smallness of the parish and its sparse population, he will give sympathetic consideration to the waiving of this contribution or to having it substantially reduced.

I am aware of the urgent need for a new school at Forgney, County Longford. Sketch plans have been prepared and forwarded to the Reverend Manager.

A grant towards the cost of the new school will be sanctioned when satisfactory evidence of title to the school site has been furnished and the local contribution has been settled. I am unable to say at this stage when the new school will be completed.

Full consideration will be given to the representations made in regard to the local contribution.
