Vol. 214 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fee Payments to Experts.

61.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware of the growing difficulty of getting the assistance of medical, technical and scientific experts in the preparation of cases for litigation because of inadequate fees allowed to such experts by taxing masters and county registrars; if he will have steps taken in consultation with the professions concerned to ensure that adequate remuneration is allowed to such experts in keeping with their responsibilities and duties and present day money values; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of any difficulty of the kind to which the Deputy refers. I have no reason to believe that the allowance made for the fees of professional experts in the taxation of costs constitutes an impediment to the preparation of cases for litigation. If any party is dissatisfied with the allowance made by the taxing officer, he may apply to the court.
