asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of school meals being provided on a daily average in schools in Dublin city; what an average meal consists of and the average cost per meal; and if he will give similar particulars for a convenient date in 1960.

The average daily number of school meals provided under the School Meals Scheme in Dublin city in the month of December, 1964, was 41,300 and the average cost 4¾d. The corresponding particulars for 1960 are 39,000 and 4d. The average meal consists of one-third of a pint of milk and a sandwich of bread with butter, meat, cheese or jam.
