Vol. 214 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price Fixing Arrangements.

8.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in order to provide for an element of competitive pricing in the sale of the majority of consumer goods, he will introduce legislation to ban the use of price fixing arrangements amongst traders and manufacturers.

Resale price maintenance and other practices aimed at securing uniformity of prices have been prohibited in several trades by Orders and Fair Trading Rules made under the Restrictive Trade Practices Acts. Competitive pricing operates in the sale of the majority of consumer goods. In accordance with the Acts the position is kept under continuing review by the Fair Trade Commission and I see no reason to introduce further legislation.
