Vol. 214 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Creamery Milk Prices.

26.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the fact that at this time of the year farmers in the creamery areas generally draw up their annual farm programmes and that milk prices are an important factor in determining the size of the dairy herd, he will now give some indication of the creamery milk price prospects for 1965.

As I have already announced, an extra 1d. per gallon will be paid from the Exchequer on creamery milk which comes within a defined premium grade under a grading scheme which will be introduced on 1st May, 1965. The object of the scheme is to effect a more rapid improvement in the quality of milk supplied to creameries and, at the same time, to increase the income of the creamery milk suppliers.
