Dáil Éireann debate -
Thursday, 11 Mar 1965

Vol. 214 No. 12

Public Business. - Local Elections Regulations, 1965.

The following motion appeared on the Order Paper, in the name of the Minister for Local Government:
That Dáil Éireann approves of the following regulations in draft:
Local Elections Regulations, 1965,
a copy of which was laid in draft before Dáil Éireann on the 25th day of February, 1965.

Are these not tied up with the Bills that have been postponed?

Is this motion postponed also?

What has it to do with the Bills?

It has nothing to do with them.

I do not mind Cork Corporation getting 31 members for the little piece of a city they have.

I did not understand that it was tied up with the others.

So far as the Local Elections Regulations are concerned, they are not connected with the other matters at all.

The date is not.

I understand they are and cannot be fixed until the others have been disposed of.

If the Minister now says that he does not propose to move No. 8, I think we can go on to the other business but they really ought to do their homework.

Motion, by leave, postponed.

Before the Minister moves the estimate for his Department in view of the fact that it is likely that this debate also will collapse, could Question Time be taken at the end of the debate if that is earlier than 2.30?

We have no guarantee that it will.

We know what happened before.

You can talk longer on this.

It will not kill us to come back at 2.30.

We can see as the debate proceeds.
