Vol. 215 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Employment.

14.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether it is proposed to take new steps to organise the supply, training and education of personnel for industrial employment, to alter the function and scope of employment exchanges and to provide educational and financial assistance for workers who become redundant as a result of rationalisation in industry; and if he will give an outline of any such proposals.

An inter-departmental committee on administrative arrangements for implementing manpower policy recently presented its Report to the Government. The committee has made certain recommendations in regard to the supply and training of personnel for industrial employment and in regard to the function and scope of employment exchanges. These recommendations are under examination. Copies of the committee's Report will be laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas and published at an early date.

The inter-departmental committee was also charged with the further task of making recommendations in regard to the question of redundant workers and these recommendations are awaited.

In the meantime, I am not in a position to outline the Government's proposals in these matters.
