asked the Minister for Education if he will state the differential in salary and conditions of employment between trained and untrained teachers in national schools.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report, a statement giving the information requested by the Deputy.

Following is the statement.:—

SALARY SCALES FOR TRAINED AND UNTRAINED TEACHERS IN NATIONAL SCHOOLS

TRAINED TEACHERS

Principals and Assistants:

(a) Married Men: £750—£28×5, £34×5, £39×5, £45×2—£1,345.

(b) Women and single men: £605—£22×5, £27×5, £31×5, £35×2—£1,075.

(c) Junior Assistant Teachers (trained Junior Assistant Mistresses): £605—£22×5, £27×5, £31×3—£943.

UNTRAINED TEACHERS

Principals and assistants appointed prior to 1st January, 1921 and also, subject to certain conditions, untrained teachers who qualified prior to 1st January, 1921, but who were appointed subsequent to 31st December, 1920.

(d) Married Men: £685—£29×5, £38×5, £45×5—£1,245.

(e) Women and single men: £540—£24×5, £28×5, £33×5—£965.

Principals and assistants appointed after 31st December, 1920:

(f) Married Men: £595—£22×5, £30×5, £42×5—£1,065.

(g) Women and single men: £450—£20×5, £24×5, £27×5—£805.

JUNIOR ASSISTANT MISTRESSES

(h) Untrained Junior Assistant Mistresses: As at (g) above.

In the matter of general conditions of service, apart from scale salary, the same regulation as regards allowances, pension, etc., apply to trained and untrained teachers.
