Vol. 215 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of County Sligo Rivers.

3.

asked the Minister for Finance if there are any proposals in his Department for a joint Sligo-Leitrim intermediate drainage scheme for the Drumcliffe river, County Sligo.

The Drumcliffe catchment has been noted for consideration under the intermediate rivers drainage programme but I cannot say when it will be reached.

4.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is expected that the survey of the Owenmore-Arrow catchment area will be completed; and when approximately drainage of those rivers is expected to be undertaken.

Mr. Gibbons

The field survey of the Owenmore catchment will take about two years more. After that it will be necessary to plot the survey data and work out a design and estimate of cost of a scheme and if the scheme proves to be economic, the various requirements of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, will then have to be complied with. For a major catchment such as the Owenmore, all these matters take a considerable time and it is not possible at this stage to say when works could be commenced.
