Vol. 215 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Potez Factory.

14.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the reason why Potez Aerospace Limited are taking so long to go into production.

As the Deputy was informed on 23rd February last, the production of certain parts has commenced and this work has since been expanded.

Is the Minister not aware that only 45 people are employed in this industry to date and that they are completely held up because there is an argument going on between the principals of the company and the officials of the county council? That is one of the reasons. There may be others. That is the main reason. I would ask the Minister to use his influence in this matter.

I have seen reports of the argument but I would not agree that they are completely held up. My information is that they are gradually expanding.

Is the Minister not concerned about the slow rate of development in this industry, in view of the enormous State expenditure?

We were to have 1,700 employed there.

It is capable of employing that number.

Are these planes not getting off the ground?
