Vol. 215 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compulsory Insurance Limit.

24.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, in view of the fall in the value of money which has taken place since 1953 and in view of the fact that the present £800 limit for compulsory insurance is now quite unrealistic and excludes many ordinary wage and salary earners, he will take immediate steps to raise this limit.

The question of raising the existing remuneration limit of £800 for insurance purposes under the Social Welfare Acts in the case of non-manual workers is under consideration. I hope to be in a position to announce a decision in the matter at an early date.
