Vol. 215 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Swimming Pools.

6.

andMr. N. Lemass asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give immediate approval to a proposal by Dublin Corporation to erect six swimming pools in Dublin city; how such a proposal will affect previous proposals; and if he will make a general statement on the matter.

If Dublin Corporation submit a proposal to me to erect swimming pools in Dublin city based on the plans and specifications for the basic pool recently announced by me, or reasonable variations of those plans and specifications, I will be prepared to give immediate approval. As to previous proposals, I am asking local authorities who have proposals under consideration or whose proposals have already been approved to have them re-examined in the light of recent developments associated with the prototype pool. The prototype pool is a 25-metre four-lane pool, heated, filtered, and chlorinated, with dressing and sanitary accommodation.

I shall make the plans and other particulars of the pool available on request to local authorities or other interested parties. Furthermore. I am prepared, where necessary, to arrange for the provision of pools through the National Building Agency on behalf of local authorities or groups who are not in a position to do the work themselves.
