Vol. 215 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Grants.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether, in view of the increasing difficulties faced by young married couples seeking to purchase their own houses, he will arrange that all or part of the local government grant of £275 be paid direct to the purchaser in advance of the actual building of the house, thus aiding him in paying the deposit and initial costs of house purchase.

Payment of all or any portion of the grants available for new houses in advance of commencement of building operations would not be feasible. I am satisfied that the existing arrangements for paying instalments of grants at roofing stage, are adequate.
