Vol. 215 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension Applications.

20.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether people applying for old age pension are asked to state whether they were ever in jail; and, if so, why they must make this statement.

Persons applying for pension are not asked to state whether they were ever in jail and such information would not affect the decision on a claim.

I should perhaps add that where an old age pension has been granted the pensioner is disqualified for the receipt of payment while serving a period of imprisonment, if sentenced without the option of a fine.
