Vol. 215 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Traffic Lights.

10.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will take steps to have traffic lights or warning signals provided at the Walkinstown-Cromwellsfort Road intersections, Dublin, in view of the traffic dangers at this complex junction.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will take steps to have traffic lights or pedestrian crossings provided at the junction of the Drimnagh and Walkinstown Roads, Dublin, in view of the traffic dangers at that intersection.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 10 and 11 together.

The provision of traffic lights, pedestrian crossings and warning signals is a matter in the first instance for the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána and the road authorities concerned. Proposals in these matters come before me only when a grant from the Road Fund is being sought. I understand that traffic islands and pedestrian lights will be provided at the junction of Drimnagh and Walkinstown roads in conjunction with road improvement works on the Long Mile Road for which Dublin Corporation have accepted a tender. I have no application in regard to traffic lights or warning signals at Walkinstown-Cromwellsfort Road junction. I shall have a copy of the Deputy's question regarding this junction sent to the Commissioner and the road authority. A scheme for the provision of a roundabout at this junction is held up by land acquisition difficulties.
