Vol. 215 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Accidents.

16.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, having regard to the increase in the number of industrial accidents, he will consider measures for the introduction of safety engineering instruction as an integral part of professional and trade courses.

I share the concern of the Deputy about the number of industrial accidents and I have assisted in the establishment of the National Industrial Safety Organisation which has a mission to inculcate among workers and employers a greater awareness of the needs for higher standards of safety in industry. I will transmit to the Minister for Education the Deputy's suggestion about inculcating this awareness among students of the kind mentioned.
