Vol. 215 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Hospital Staff.

26.

asked the Minister for Health why the staff of St. Kevin's Hospital, Dublin, are not included in the Hospitals Commission Agreement of 1963; and if he can take measures to rectify this matter.

I am not clear what precisely the Deputy means by the phrase "Hospitals Commission Agreement". In the ordinary course of its business, the Commission negotiates many agreements and settlements each year in relation to the remuneration, etc. of the staff of voluntary hospitals.

It should be understood that the functions of the Commission relate only to those voluntary hospitals which participate in the scheme of deficit recoupment from the Hospitals Trust Fund, whereas St. Kevin's Hospital is a local authority institution administered by the Dublin Health Authority. Any question of revision of the terms and conditions of service of staff of that hospital is a matter for that Authority in the first instance.
