asked the Taoiseach if he has considered the advisability of applying for membership of EFTA, in view of the fact that agricultural discussions are likely under the auspices of GATT and that agricultural agreements are likely within the confines of EFTA, and so help to safeguard such markets and preferences as this country still retains in the British market.

I would refer the Deputy to the references to the European Free Trade Association in my statement to the Dáil on the 13th instant. As I then indicated, the possibilities in this direction, like other possibilities, will continue to be kept under examination by the Government.
