Vol. 215 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tullamore Water and Sewerage Services.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government what proposals are at present under consideration in his Department regarding the need for the extension of water and sewerage services for the areas of Tullamore town which do not already benefit from such services.

Drainage proposals submitted by Tullamore Urban District Council provide for certain areas within the town which have up to now no sewerage services. My recommendations on these proposals were conveyed to the local authority in March last, when I informed the council that the preparation of contract documents for the drainage of these areas may now be put in hands and that the technical data requested in respect of the scheme for the town as a whole should be submitted.

I understand that a sufficient water supply is available to serve the needs of houses in the urban district area.

No proposals for a water supply or sewerage scheme to serve the houses outside the urban boundary have been submitted. The matter is one in the first instance for Offaly County Council.
