asked the Minister for Justice when and how the payment of five shillings to each juror in a civil case was fixed.

The payment of 5/- to each juror in a civil case is provided for by section 62 of the Juries Act, 1927.

What was this supposed to cover?

Jury service—5/- per day.

Is that subsistence?

No, payment.

Did the Minister say 5/- per day, or only 5/- for the full period? A case might go on for a full week or fortnight.

Yes, 5/- per day.
