Vol. 215 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Estate.

21.

asked the Minister for Lands the present position regarding the proposed acquisition of the Trench Estate, Ballybrittas, Laois.

There are no proceedings for acquisition of this estate but the matter is being kept under review.

Is the Minister fully aware of the congestion problem in this area? Is he further aware that a deputation went to the Land Commission in 1964, and certain assurances were given which indicated that they were contemplating having this land acquired very soon? That was in April, 1964.

It is not correct to say that any such assurances were given by the Land Commission on that occasion. I have said that this land is being kept under continuous review by the Land Commission. No doubt the Deputy is aware of the unusual personal circumstances of the owner of this estate. So far as the local congests are concerned, the Deputy must also be aware that they have received land from the Land Commission.
